Brake Tech, which opened up in March, isn’t your typical repair shop. It is a place where fast, friendly staff assist with your vehicle’s brake needs with a name you can trust.
Pat Walby, St. Clair Shores Mayor Kip C. Walby’s Cousin, is the business owner and your go-to man for vehicle brake repair at 18903 E. Nine Mile Road in Eastpointe.
Pat and his brother Phil Walby, who have been in the brake business for more than 15 years, said that he and his business associates are brake specialists.
Pat and his brother were in business in Oregon and have done more than 850,000 brake jobs.
“We focus on one repair, we buy our parts better, and our mechanics do the brake jobs over and over, which means they are good at it. Car brakes in and out the same day; pads replaced in an hour and a half. This focus means better mechanics, better parts, better service,” Pat Walby said. “We do anything with brakes and suspensions.”
Walby has long-standing roots in St. Clair Shores and graduated from Lakeview High School.
“The Walby name is known well in St. Clair Shores,” he said, adding that trust can be a big issue with car owners, but his name and his business is trustworthy.
Since opening up the store, Walby’s business has performed 500 to 600 brake jobs already.
The store also has an $88 brake pad special and just $20 more for metro Detroit office or mobile visits — wherever the customer is located.
“Wherever we can change a tire, we can change a brake. Whatever car you have, we can come out and inspect your car for no charge,” Walby said. “We go anywhere in the Detroit area, or stop in the Brake Tech Shop at Nine Mile and I-94.”

Why waste your Saturday sitting in a repair shop, when a Brake Tech can come to your home or office to repair your brakes?
Pat Walby added that there are only two other companies in the United States that offer such a mobile service.
“We do more brake jobs than anyone else,” Walby said, adding that the store buys the best parts.” People like specialists. Our places are better than anybody else. We will have you in and out in an hour.”
Brake Tech keeps the focus on brakes.
“If you go into an automotive store, they do many things — we only do brakes,” Pat said. “We have the parts in our warehouse in stock, and you’re not having to leave your car for a day or two days or a few hours.”
The store also has a 24-month, 24,000- mile guarantee for brake pads not wearing out.
Diana W. said that the store is a clean, nice place.
“My brother needed brakes for his truck.... It was taken to the Brake Tech.... They replaced the brake pads for the advertised price, and I was impressed that they did it so quickly.”
The store is open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
